REDCOM receives Top Workplace Award for fourth consecutive year

REDCOM Laboratories, Inc. is proud to announce that the company has been awarded a Top Workplaces honor by The Democrat and Chronicle for the fourth consecutive year. The list of Top Workplaces is based solely on employee feedback gathered through a third-party survey administered by employee engagement technology partner Energage, LLC. The anonymous survey uniquely measures 15 drivers of engaged cultures that are critical to the success of any organization, including alignment, performance, engagement, and leadership, just to name a few.

“We are so proud again this year, for the fourth consecutive year, to be named a Top Workplace in Rochester,” remarked REDCOM’s Director of Human Resources, Kara Martin. “We are grateful to each of our employees for their hard work, loyalty, and dedication in making REDCOM a top workplace.”

REDCOM’s mission centers around enabling the most important conversations in the world for customers that include all branches of the military, government agencies, and first responders. In a complex and competitive industry, REDCOM stands out from other communications companies by focusing on a refined set of functions that are integral to mission security.

“REDCOM’s focus on delivering the most reliable and interoperable products has allowed us to provide unparalleled flexibility and responsiveness to our customers.” continues Martin. “It is this same approach that has earned us the honor of Top Workplaces for the last four years, as we have navigated the challenges of a pandemic and changing work landscapes.”

While transitioning this switch to remote and hybrid work for our teams, REDCOM has kept their employees connected and driven towards a common goal. “Personally, it is such an honor to work for a company where employees recognize their value and are recognized for their contributions,” shares Martin. “On behalf of REDCOM, I want to thank all our employees, not only for their feedback that led to this award but for the work they do every day to make REDCOM a wonderful place to work.”

REDCOM receives Top Workplace Award for second consecutive year

REDCOM Laboratories, Inc. is proud to announce that the company has been awarded a Top Workplaces honor by The Democrat and Chronicle for the second consecutive year. Not only has REDCOM been recognized regionally, but the company has also been recognized nationally with the Top Workplaces Woman-Led Culture Excellence Award.

REDCOM Top Workplace 2021I am honored that REDCOM has been recognized as a Top Workplace in Rochester for the second year in a row,” said Dinah Weisberg, President and CEO, REDCOM. “And on top of that, we were recognized at the national level with a Top Workplaces Culture Award. We owe our employees a huge thank you for making this happen.”

Mrs. Weisberg continues, “It’s obvious that everyone has faced challenges in the past year dealing with COVID-19, but I couldn’t be more proud of how we have handled these massive adjustments as a company. We’ve kept our employees connected and driven towards a common goal, and we managed to close several large deals in the past year, including a multi-year contract with the U.S. Army. I’m amazed by what we have been able to accomplish in the face of a global pandemic, and I’m encouraged by what we have in the pipeline for 2021.

“During this very challenging time, Top Workplaces has proven to be a beacon of light for organizations, as well as a sign of resiliency and strong business performance,” said Eric RubinoEnergage CEO. “When you give your employees a voice, you come together to navigate challenges and shape your path forward. Top Workplaces draw on real-time insights into what works best for their organization, so they can make informed decisions that have a positive impact on their people and their business.”

REDCOM’s mission centers around enabling the most important conversations in the world for customers that include all branches of the military, government agencies, first responders, and telecom service providers. In a complex and competitive industry, REDCOM stands out from other communications companies by focusing on a refined set of functions that are integral to mission security.

“No one builds products with the level of interoperability, reliability, and ease of use that REDCOM does,” said Weisberg. “This challenge of meeting — and exceeding — customer requirements is what motivates the team here at REDCOM every day.”

REDCOM was founded in 1978 in Penfield, NY. In less than a decade, the company expanded so rapidly that it built a brand-new facility on a 40-acre campus in Victor, NY, which REDCOM still occupies today. The entrepreneurial roots from REDCOM’s early days continue to drive the company’s culture today. All employees are empowered to work autonomously and are afforded the power to drive change within the company and its products.

“What makes the culture here so special is that it is a family business. It’s not only my family’s business, but we’ve always treated our employees like extended members of the family,” said Weisberg. “Our support of the individual and our drive to make the individual succeed is what ultimately makes the whole organization perform at its best.”

Honoring our Veterans – Recognizing Veterans Day at REDCOM

Veterans Day is not only an important day in our country, but it’s an important day at REDCOM. With 14% of our workforce comprised of veterans, we appreciate not only their service to our country but their understanding and commitment to the customers that we have within the United States military.

Veterans Day began at the end of World War I, when fighting ceased on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. For that reason, November 11, 1918, is regarded as the end of “the war to end all wars.” In November of 1919, President Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first Armistice Day with the following words:

“To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations…”

After World War II required the greatest enlistment of soldiers, sailors, Marines, and airmen in the Nation’s history, November 11 became a day to honor American veterans of all wars. With so many dedicated employees having served in our country’s military, we asked some of our employees what this day means to them.

To continue the support of local veterans, consider making a contribution to the Veterans Outreach Center. Founded locally in 1973 by returning Vietnam Veterans, today’s Veterans Outreach Center remains anchored in our community and offers a comprehensive portfolio of supportive services designed to meet the needs of veterans and their families. Through the generosity of our community, all of these programs and services are provided free of charge and can be found at http://veteransoutreachcenter.org.

Employee Feature: Collin Sweeney

REDCOM Laboratories builds security into all of its products and prides itself on providing some of the most secure communications in the world. With October the official month of cybersecurity awareness, REDCOM is proud to feature one of its Cybersecurity Researchers, Collin Sweeney.

Collin joined REDCOM on a part-time basis in 2018 after graduating from Appalachian State with a Bachelor’s Degree in Astrophysics. Collin was then brought on full time in 2019 working under Sal Ceravolo and the REDCOM research team. There, he has been helping to communicate the ideas of data encryption to the software engineers and breaking down abstract concepts into information that can be applied and used practically.

With an eye on future developments in the industry, Collin has written papers on Equivalencies in Security and Evaluating Encryption Schemes for Use in Secure Multi-Party VoIP Conferencing.

REDCOM partners with RIT Department of Computer Science to revolutionize encryption and authentication

The name REDCOM stands for REsearch and Development in COMmunications, so it’s no surprise that we take research and product improvement so seriously. Whenever we work on new technology, we leverage both our internal R&D team and external resources in the community.

REDCOM recently formed a partnership with the Rochester Institute of Technology and the Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences to help us dig deeper into blockchain and Zero-Knowledge Proof (ZKP) technology. These advancements would give REDCOM its own modifiable and controllable authentication system that is distributed.

REDCOM has teamed up with Dr. Peizhao Hu of RIT’s Golisano College of Computing and Information Science, a Professor and research engineer with extensive experience in cybersecurity and blockchain technology. Members of the REDCOM leadership and R&D teams – Chris Hasenauer, Jeff Smith, Sal Ceravolo, and Collin Sweeney — recently visited RIT to meet with our research partners and go over new developments.

You may be asking: what is a blockchain, and what will it allow REDCOM to do? A blockchain is a list of records called “blocks” that are linked using cryptography. By design, a blockchain is resistant to the modification of data. The blockchain gives the user a controlled Hyperledger, which prevents altering of previous versions of a record but also allows controlled access to specified individuals. Therefore, if a hacker were to try to make a change, that information would be easily identified and recorded.

REDCOM’s authentication method is based on zero-knowledge proof (ZKP) which allows parties to prove their identities without requiring the authenticating party to know (or store) any personal information. The key benefit of this method is that authentication sources don’t have to worry about being hacked and losing vital customer identifying information.

Coupling the ZKP-based authentication system to the Hyperledger allows for a fully distributed authentication system that has no single point of failure that can compromise the entire system. This means that there is no central server storing your password information, thus removing any potential threat.

Developing the blockchain and zero-knowledge proof capability is extremely important to REDCOM because it will allow us to provide an authentication system that can be used in denied and contested environments. We envision future solutions being used in disaster recovery scenarios and at the tactical edge where access to the cloud or an authentication server may be impossible.

REDCOM is looking forward to further development in the areas of security, encryption, and authentication so that we can keep improving the technology that keeps our warfighters and first responders connected.

Courtney has been part of the REDCOM team since January of 2018. As a Government Account Manager, Courtney works with our customers to solve their interoperability and secure communication challenges by understanding their technical as well as operational requirements. “Understanding these unique requirements allows us to convey how our technology will be used, who will be using it, and how it supports operations in peacetime as well as in times of crisis,” remarked Stiles. To keep REDCOM customers informed about REDCOM capabilities, Courtney began hosting regular webinars, where she focuses on topics that are important to our government and military customers. Past webinar topics include Communications at the Pace of Operations and Secure, Survivable Conferencing and can be viewed here (Comms at the Pace of Operations, Cleared for Conferencing).

With her desire to learn and her ability to connect with those around her, Courtney has been accepted into the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce CLIMB Program. The CLIMB Program was created to allow young professionals from local companies who exhibit stellar leadership, vision, and integrity to learn from some of the most successful leaders in our region. It is a ten-month program where participants are given personalized leadership development training and mentorship from local leaders in business. Participants have the opportunity to attend seminars from successful CEOs, and discuss issues facing our communities with political leaders.

“I’m honored to have been selected for the CLIMB Program and I am grateful that REDCOM invests in the development of their employees,” said Stiles. “I’m lucky enough to have great people around me that I can learn from every day, and I’m really looking forward to gaining additional knowledge and experience from local leaders in the Rochester business community to bring back and apply to my job at REDCOM.”
