REDCOM receives Top Workplace Award for third consecutive year

REDCOM Laboratories, Inc. is proud to announce that the company has been awarded a Top Workplaces honor by The Democrat and Chronicle for the third consecutive year. The list of Top Workplaces is based solely on employee feedback gathered through a third-party survey administered by employee engagement technology partner Energage, LLC. The anonymous survey uniquely measures 15 drivers of engaged cultures that are critical to the success of any organization, including alignment, performance, engagement, and leadership, just to name a few.

“We are so pleased to be recognized for the third year in a row as a Top Workplace in Rochester. This “threepeat” award means so much to us this year as we continue to focus on a great work experience for our employees,” remarked REDCOM’s Director of Human Resources, Kara Martin. “We have proudly cultivated a family culture over the last 43 years. Last fall, we lost our beloved founder, Klaus Gueldenpfennig. We are so proud that we have been able to keep his vision and dream going through our employees.”

REDCOM’s mission centers around enabling the most important conversations in the world for customers that include all branches of the military, government agencies, and first responders. In a complex and competitive industry, REDCOM stands out from other communications companies by focusing on a refined set of functions that are integral to mission security.

“We know that REDCOM produces products of the highest quality, reliability, and interoperability and that is because of our employees’ dedication to REDCOM and our customers,” continues Martin. “On behalf of REDCOM, I want to thank all of our employees, not only for their feedback that led to this award, but for their hard work, their loyalty, and their commitment to making REDCOM a wonderful place to work.”

After navigating two years of COVID-19, REDCOM has kept their employees connected and driven towards a common goal. “As employees continue to return to the office more often, it is the laughter in the hallways, the hugs of old friends, and the impromptu chats that we realize we have all missed so much,” mentions Martin.  “Personally, it is such an honor to work for a company where employees recognize their value and are recognized for their contributions.”

REDCOM launches the first release of ZKX, cybersecurity authentication software built for Zero Trust government and military networks

REDCOM Laboratories, Inc. has announced that the first release of its market-disrupting cybersecurity authentication software, ZKX, is now ready for field exercises and laboratory testing. The ZKX software will provide government and military organizations with the authentication technology required to migrate their existing IT infrastructures to Zero Trust networks.

ZKX for Zero Trust ArchitectureZKX is patent-pending security software that enables zero-knowledge multi-factor authentication. ZKX is built on zero-knowledge proofs, resulting in a system where no secrets are kept on the client or server side, thus greatly improving the cybersecurity posture while reducing cyber risk. ZKX is completely agnostic to the devices, network, transport, and storage mechanisms already in place, and is adaptable to any policy.

The ZKX concepts and codebase have been thoroughly evaluated by Galois, a leading R&D security firm for critical systems. Galois verified the ZKX cryptography, code, workflows, and attack vectors, ensuring that the software is operationally sound and ready for deployment.

“Our initial target with our ZKX solution is the tactical domain,” said ZKX Chief Technologist and Co-Founder Collin Sweeney. “Our approach is unique: Instead of building a top-heavy enterprise-level product and jamming it down the echelons, we designed ZKX to grow from the bottom-up. In other words, our software is lightweight, scalable, and flexible, so it’s easy to deploy in DIL environments, such as at the tactical edge where cloud services may be unavailable.”

“With this first release of ZKX, it’s the perfect time for labs, integrators, and primes to test the software with real-world applications with the full support of the entire ZKX development team,” said Sal Ceravolo, Director of Product and Market Strategy. “Zero trust solutions have long been promised but rarely delivered, and this is especially true in the military domain at the tactical edge. Our ZKX cybersecurity solution is a novel, patent-pending technology that can be used in any authentication environment to enhance security, and we’re anticipating getting it into the hands of more end users this spring.”

REDCOM leads discussions on tactical technologies at Mobile Deployable Communications Conference

REDCOM is proud to announce that the company is sponsoring and leading discussions at the Mobile Deployable Communications Conference (MDC), held in London, England on January 26 and 27, 2022. The Mobile Deployable Communications conference is designed to bring together global leading program managers, strategic decision-makers, industry experts, and thought leaders to discuss and explore the latest developments in communications technology in the tactical domain.

REDCOM’s Executive Vice President, Col. Mike Sweeney (USMC, Ret.) will be a featured speaker at MDC, focusing on tactical technologies to address emerging threats. With a career in the U.S. Marine Corps that spanned four decades in a wide variety of command and staff positions, Col. Sweeney is highly knowledgeable on the intricacies of warfare from the strategic, down to the tactical level. Col. Sweeney’s briefing will cover a variety of topics, including mitigating threats from the cyber domain, effective C2 for distributed and DIL environments, improving interoperability with joint and coalition forces, and reducing complexity while improving operational effectiveness.

Highly adaptable forces that allow the warfighter to maintain consistent communications and situational awareness are the keys to success in the next fight. Command and control will be driven by the ability to implement low SWaP hardware and software solutions, reduce the equipment footprint at the tactical edge, improve interoperability, and intuitively arrange connectivity. REDCOM solutions are uniquely positioned to enable the warfighter of today and tomorrow to optimize battlefield command while reducing complexity, costs, and training time.

During his briefing, Col. Sweeney will talk about multiple REDCOM solutions, including:

  • REDCOM Sigma: C2 software with integrated voice, video, and chat functionality. Sigma is already the C2 platform of choice for the U.S. Army’s Program Executive Office Command, Control, Communications-Tactical network modernization.
  • REDCOM Sigma XRI: a low-SWaP C2 hardware platform with the ability to bridge up to four separate radio nets into the C2 network.
  • REDCOM C2 Console: a graphical interface that provides users with interoperability between all forms of communication, with the ability to dynamically patch together any available comms path through drag and drop.
  • REDCOM ZKX: Lightweight and powerful user and device authentication system designed to bring a Zero Trust Architecture to the tactical domain.

REDCOM® introduces Sigma® XRI-400, a low-SWaP C2 platform for the tactical edge

REDCOM Laboratories, Inc., the leading supplier of advanced tactical and strategic communications solutions, is pleased to introduce REDCOM Sigma® XRI-400, a small form factor Command and Control (C2) platform designed for all echelons of the tactical environment.

Sigma XRI - IP and RF interopBuilding on the success of REDCOM Sigma C2 software, REDCOM developed the Sigma XRI-400 platform to bring voice, video, chat, and radio interoperability to the tactical edge in a single ruggedized, low-SWaP box.

“As operations become more decentralized and distributed, communications requirements and interoperability requirements increase dramatically,” said Mike Sweeney, VP Strategy, REDCOM. “The new Sigma XRI from REDCOM solves these challenges. It enables units to operate more autonomously and allows warfighters to maintain connectivity and situational awareness in any environment. Sigma XRI also greatly reduces the architecture, training, and complexity of deployed communications, leading to reduced lifecycle costs and a more efficient network footprint.”

REDCOM XRI-400 is powered by REDCOM Sigma software, the C2 platform of choice for multiple programs within the United States Army’s Program Executive Office for Command, Control and Communications-Tactical (PEO C3T).

REDCOM Sigma XRI-400 combines the proven capabilities of REDCOM Sigma software with technology that bridges the gap between radios from multiple military units and Joint/Coalition forces. With the new XRI-400 system, radio users on any end device or frequency can seamlessly communicate over multiple networks, including IP, LTE, SATCOM, UHF, VHF, HF, and TSM. The new solution enables disparate units, branches, and nations to seamlessly communicate within a common C2 platform, eliminating the hurdles brought on by the traditionally incompatible communications devices and systems.

In disconnected, intermittent, and low-bandwidth (DIL) environments, REDCOM Sigma XRI-400 can be employed as a stand-alone Command and Control platform. This enables continuity of operations even in the event of a targeted electromagnetic attack. Additionally, the small form factor of Sigma XRI-400 allows the solution to be mounted in vehicles, packed, hand-carried, or added to an existing data/comms rack to support C2 in all domains.

The capabilities of REDCOM Sigma XRI-400 also translate to the Public Safety world, where incident responders can use the platform to bridge gaps in communications that result from conventionally incompatible systems and hardware used by police, fire, EMTs, the national guard, and federal agencies.

REDCOM receives Top Workplace Award for second consecutive year

REDCOM Laboratories, Inc. is proud to announce that the company has been awarded a Top Workplaces honor by The Democrat and Chronicle for the second consecutive year. Not only has REDCOM been recognized regionally, but the company has also been recognized nationally with the Top Workplaces Woman-Led Culture Excellence Award.

REDCOM Top Workplace 2021I am honored that REDCOM has been recognized as a Top Workplace in Rochester for the second year in a row,” said Dinah Weisberg, President and CEO, REDCOM. “And on top of that, we were recognized at the national level with a Top Workplaces Culture Award. We owe our employees a huge thank you for making this happen.”

Mrs. Weisberg continues, “It’s obvious that everyone has faced challenges in the past year dealing with COVID-19, but I couldn’t be more proud of how we have handled these massive adjustments as a company. We’ve kept our employees connected and driven towards a common goal, and we managed to close several large deals in the past year, including a multi-year contract with the U.S. Army. I’m amazed by what we have been able to accomplish in the face of a global pandemic, and I’m encouraged by what we have in the pipeline for 2021.

“During this very challenging time, Top Workplaces has proven to be a beacon of light for organizations, as well as a sign of resiliency and strong business performance,” said Eric RubinoEnergage CEO. “When you give your employees a voice, you come together to navigate challenges and shape your path forward. Top Workplaces draw on real-time insights into what works best for their organization, so they can make informed decisions that have a positive impact on their people and their business.”

REDCOM’s mission centers around enabling the most important conversations in the world for customers that include all branches of the military, government agencies, first responders, and telecom service providers. In a complex and competitive industry, REDCOM stands out from other communications companies by focusing on a refined set of functions that are integral to mission security.

“No one builds products with the level of interoperability, reliability, and ease of use that REDCOM does,” said Weisberg. “This challenge of meeting — and exceeding — customer requirements is what motivates the team here at REDCOM every day.”

REDCOM was founded in 1978 in Penfield, NY. In less than a decade, the company expanded so rapidly that it built a brand-new facility on a 40-acre campus in Victor, NY, which REDCOM still occupies today. The entrepreneurial roots from REDCOM’s early days continue to drive the company’s culture today. All employees are empowered to work autonomously and are afforded the power to drive change within the company and its products.

“What makes the culture here so special is that it is a family business. It’s not only my family’s business, but we’ve always treated our employees like extended members of the family,” said Weisberg. “Our support of the individual and our drive to make the individual succeed is what ultimately makes the whole organization perform at its best.”

REDCOM continues to demonstrate effectiveness of STIR/SHAKEN caller authentication standards with the ATIS Robocalling Testbed

REDCOM Laboratories, Inc., the leading provider of solutions for the network service layer, announced today it has successfully completed interoperability testing with the ATIS Robocalling Testbed that demonstrates the interoperability of the company’s STIR/SHAKEN implementation within the REDCOM Personalized Call Screening software. REDCOM previously completed this testing in 2019, and is proud to have completed it again with both STI-AS and STI-VS functionalityThese tests are part of a broader industry effort to help service providers protect consumers against unwanted robocalls and caller ID spoofing.

“Nuisance calls are one of the biggest pain points affecting consumers today,” Said Shannon Chevier, Director of Product Management for REDCOM. “The TRACED Act requires all telecom carriers to provide their users with a call screening system. Our robust Personalized Call Screening solution allows service providers to offer consumers real protection against today’s onslaught of robocalls. Service providers that implement REDCOM software not only get a proven STIR/SHAKEN solution, but also a ‘best of all worlds’ toolkit that includes reputation scoring, white and blacklists, and audio CAPTCHAs.”

The virtualized testing facility, hosted by the Neustar Trust Lab, supports a joint effort from the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) called STIR/SHAKEN, which gives service providers the ability to authenticate, digitally sign, and verify calling party numbers. This testing confirms REDCOM’s successful implementation of both the Secure Telephone Identity Revisited (STIR) standard and the Signature-based Handling of Asserted information using toKENs (SHAKEN) framework.

“Neustar is committed to helping combat spoofed calls, and restoring trust in the phone channel,” said Neustar’s SVP and GM, Communications Solutions, James Garvert. “As of October of last year, we had sixty-six registered participants in the ATIS testbed. We’ve all learned that testing in a contained environment is very important to ensure STIR/SHAKEN goes live without any errors. We congratulate REDCOM on their success.”

TAA: Why It Matters When Buying Communications Products

REDCOM - TAA Compliant ProductsThe integrity of computing technology and communications gear is more important now than ever before. When government agencies, militaries, and first responders deploy mission-critical communications solutions, lives are on the line. Understanding where this technology was sourced and built is critical to our security as a nation.

The Trade Agreements Act was enacted to govern trade agreements between the United States and foreign countries. One of the principal features of the Act is that it limits U.S. Government procurement to products made in the U.S. or in designated countries (such as Canada, Japan, Australia, or many European nations). If components are sourced from “non-designated” countries (such as China or India), then these components must undergo substantial transformation in a designated country. Only by meeting these criteria can a product be referred to as “TAA compliant.”

REDCOM products meet TAA compliance because REDCOM designs, develops, and manufactures all of our products at our headquarters in the United States. We work only with vetted and trusted suppliers to ensure that we source the best and most reliable components for every product, and we document the County of Origin for every component we purchase. REDCOM has proactively addressed every step of the supply chain to reduce risk and meet the federal standards for TAA compliance.
