REDCOM works with Air Force Research Laboratory on V2CDS interoperability

REDCOM Laboratories, Inc., the leading supplier of secure and interoperable communications systems, is pleased to announce that the company’s flagship Sigma® call control software has been successfully installed and tested by the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) in conjunction with cross-domain VoIP and video solution from AFRL and Trident Systems. V2CDS is an accredited transfer guard enabling secure, confidential voice and video communication.

REDCOM Sigma integrates seamlessly with AFRL and Trident’s V2CDS in a lab and product demonstration setting and could be deployed with them in the near future. REDCOM Sigma is FIPS validated and on the DISA Approved Products List (APL). Both REDCOM and the Trident V2CDS product are entirely standards-based, greatly reducing the time required to plan, set up, and integrate these solutions with existing networks and infrastructure.

REDCOM’s Voice Product Security Program Manager, Sal Ceravolo recognizes how important it is to get user input and feedback when designing a product. “At REDCOM our platform design process starts with the user first. We spend time with customers to better understand their environment and determine their needs, so we can customize our products to work for them, while maintaining a secure environment that meets DISA requirements,” remarked Ceravolo. “We believe that security is extremely important, but it requires an understanding of user workflow, interoperability needs, and environmental awareness – so the product can be successful.”

REDCOM successfully demonstrates interoperability with Software Defined Radio technology at Air Force Research Labs

REDCOM Laboratories Inc., a leading developer of advanced communications solutions, has successfully completed extensive interoperability testing following a week-long exercise at the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) in Rome, NY and Stockbridge, NY.

The exercise involved multiple test scenarios leveraging the AFRL high-capacity software-defined radio (SDR) network, a flexible, high capacity network running on Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) hardware. It can be established quickly and managed dynamically, with the ability to load new radio waveforms in software to adapt to changing situations on the ground. During this week of testing, REDCOM was able to demonstrate its switching and conferencing platforms in a U.S. Air Force testing environment designed to emulate a real-life emergency response scenario.

“This exercise provided the opportunity for us to work closely with other technology vendors to successfully deploy REDCOM products over a high-speed next-generation software-defined radio network using off-the-shelf components,” said Fred Elliot, Business Development Manager, Solution Architecture, REDCOM. “We leveraged rapid advancement in SDR technology, proving that REDCOM can continue to provide mission-critical communications for first responders on tomorrow’s SDR networks.”

REDCOM solutions were installed in shelters at multiple locations at the Stockbridge site as well as a simulated Tactical Operations Center in Rome, NY. Not only did REDCOM test its capacity over SDR, but the team also tested interoperability with analog lines, magneto field phones, business-band land mobile radios, P25 radios, and LTE endpoints. “We set up the REDCOM communications gear quickly, using the same kind of workflow we’d use in a disaster response situation,” said Kal Baumwart, Strategic Manager, RF, REDCOM. “We couldn’t be happier with the results. We look forward to leveraging what we learned into future solutions for the first responder market.”

Moving forward, REDCOM intends to work with the AFRL as well as other partners to expand its solution set to ensure maximum interoperability in public safety scenarios. “This exercise showcased new technology in a seamless partnership with AFRL to deliver agile interoperable voice connections across multiple wireless devices in a multi-site scenario,” remarked Michael Gudaitis, AFRL. “Twenty years ago, I worked with REDCOM to deliver voice-bridging radio capability to first responders. Then, as now, REDCOM delivers great products with exceptional service.”

About REDCOM Laboratories, Inc.:

Founded in 1978, REDCOM Laboratories, Inc. is a woman-owned small business based in Victor, NY. The company specializes in the design and manufacture of advanced communications solutions with a focus on security, reliability, and interoperability. REDCOM’s customers include all branches of the military, government agencies, emergency responders, integrators, and telecom service providers.

Employee Feature: Lauren Iuranich

REDCOM EMS, a business unit of REDCOM Laboratories, has been experiencing exponential growth over the past few years. During this period of growth, REDCOM has been expanding its production capabilities with the addition of new equipment while going after certifications to help expand into new markets, such as aerospace and medical. None of this growth and success is accomplished without a hardworking team in place.

Lauren Iuranich is a Quality Engineer for REDCOM EMS. Within her position, she manages the quality of all products being manufactured on-site in Victor, NY and runs all certification efforts for REDCOM EMS. Most recently, Lauren led the company in obtaining the AS9100D certification and she’s in the process of obtaining ISO 13485:2016. There is a lot of work that goes into getting our site certified, including updating procedures and documents, meeting standards, going through audit processes, as well as physical preparations out on the floor.

Another big part of Lauren’s job is her ongoing efforts to continuously improve upon everyday processes and procedures. She’s passionate about tackling these projects and enjoys looking at a situation or problem and thinking of ways to fix things and make everyday workflow for the team more efficient. One project Lauren is working on currently is an MES, or Manufacturing Execution System, for our manufacturing facility. This would enable REDCOM EMS to go paperless, and every operation on the floor will be set up with a laptop and a scanner. Right now, most quality data is based on returns or captured manually. With the MES in place, traceability will vastly improve, data can be easily collected and retrieved, and quality records can be better tracked.

Lauren grew up in Western New York. She was born and raised in Buffalo and went to college at RIT where she got her Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. Lauren only started working at REDCOM in 2017, but since joining the team she has become a vital asset in paving the way forward to manufacturing growth and success.
