REDCOM® and PacStar® Announce Rugged, Small Form Factor, Military Optimized Call Control Platform

September 19, 2017

REDCOM® Laboratories, Inc., the leading supplier of tactical edge communications systems, and PacStar®, a leading developer and supplier of advanced communications solutions for defense, commercial, and industrial markets, today announced the availability of REDCOM Sigma® 2.0.1 integrated on the PacStar 451 and 455 rugged communications modules.

REDCOM Sigma is REDCOM’s flagship unified communications (UC) and call control software platform that delivers powerful capabilities highly relevant to the government and military, including a robust URI-based call routing engine will full support for AS-SIP. Integrated with the PacStar 400-Series, the software can function as a stand-alone Local Session Controller (LSC) or as an adjunct to an existing Enterprise Session Controller (ESC) to deliver advanced voice services such as transcoding and conferencing for red and black networks.

The PacStar 400-Series family of small form factor, modular communications solutions is designed to maximize capabilities and configuration flexibility, with the smallest SWaP possible. The PacStar 400-Series includes routing, switching, advanced network services and more — in lightweight packaging designed with a wide variety of power options.

“REDCOM and PacStar have reimagined what it means to be low SWaP at the tactical edge,” said REDCOM President Dinah Gueldenpfennig Weisberg. “We are pleased to offer REDCOM Sigma to DoD organizations that use PacStar’s 400-Series platform, and to organizations considering stepping up to PacStar’s leading small form factor comms package.”

The combination of PacStar 400-Series and REDCOM Sigma provides dramatically improved capabilities for tactical, expeditionary, and mobile organizations including:

  • Ability to extend voice, chat/XMPP, video conferencing, and unified messaging to the edge of defense networks.
  • Ability to interoperate with existing and legacy voice and UC systems, including with coalition partners.
  • Conduct communications that need security – utilizing defense-grade, certified encryption of signaling, payload, and authentication and management protocols.
  • Ability to physically integrate with existing PacStar 400-Series based deployments, taking advantage of the modular and flexible PacStar platform.

“PacStar 400-Series customers can benefit tremendously with the integration of REDCOM’s Sigma software into our platform,” said Peggy Miller, chief executive officer for PacStar. “With the addition of the comprehensive suite of secure, interoperable, and unified communications capabilities in REDCOM Sigma, our customers have a one-stop shop to meet their military-ready networking and communications needs.”

PacStar offers a wide array of system packaging and transport options for the PacStar 400-Series, including Pelican Case, Mini-Transit Case, Smart Chassis, Desktop Chassis and Rack Mount systems. The flexible modules, together with the wide range of packaging options, enables PacStar to deliver leading-edge customized, complete solutions that are reconfigurable in the field.
