2009 was a busy, exciting, but more importantly, successful year for BERG Racing, with a considerable increase in exposure for REDCOM. A greater focus on higher-profile events, better and faster cars, and more dedicated marketing has lead to a championship in IMSA Lites L2, several wins and podium finishes in SCCA and a televised pro-racing . REDCOM’s sponsorship encompasses the team run by BERG Racing, LLC, Made up of John Weisberg and Dinah Gueldenpfennig Weisberg, VP Planning and Government Program Administration at REDCOM. The cars include several Mazda Miatas (in ITS classification for endurance races), a 1998 Ferrari 355 Challenge (for instruction, Sportscar Vintage Racing Association races), and a West DSR (D-Sports Racer) for SCCA and IMSA Lites L2 (International Motorsports Association). John Weisberg won the 2009 National Series Championship in the L2 IMSA-Lites class, and is in a tight race to win in 2010 as well. In SCCA, the BERG/REDCOM team won the 12-hour enduro at Nelson Ledges Raceway in August, as well as the 13-hour enduro at Virginia International Raceway in November. Dinah Gueldenpfennig Weisberg was a driver in both races. For 2010, both John and Dinah drove in and won the 12-hour enduro at New Jersey Motorsports Park in June of 2010, along with two other drivers. Along with the team-owned and managed cars, an additional race was driven by John Weisberg (BERG Racing) in the Grand Am Rolex GT race on August 7. This was in support of the NASCAR race at Watkins Glen International, made possible only with the support of REDCOM. BERG Racing and REDCOM worked with Hillside Children’s Center, and raised over $7000 in donations for the center as a direct result of this effort. Hillside Children's Center has served youth with emotional, behavioral, and mental challenges for decades. These services include therapeutic foster care, adoption, residential, day treatment, juvenile justice, developmental disabilities, independent living, and school-based services. Both the Hillside and REDCOM logos were prominently displayed on the GTO race car. Thanks to a generous contribution from Weisberg, 20 kids from the Hillside Children’s Center attended the racing event as part of an organized field trip. "Having the Hillside logo on the car gave the kids who attended the race a direct connection to the action on the track," said Weisberg. "Our children are thrilled to attend this event and have a particular car and driver to cheer for," said Tom Hildebrandt, President of Hillside Children’s Foundation. "We are also grateful to our partners at BERG Racing and REDCOM for the prominent placement of Hillside in the race." BERG Racing and REDCOM hope to be involved in a similar fundraising effort for Hillside in the 2010 season.
