Modular Digital Exchange with ISDN (MDX•I)

The Modular Digital Exchange with ISDN (MDX•I) is a powerful telecommunications switching system ideal for public exchange switching including end office, tandem office, and international gateways. The RUS-accepted MDX•I has a patented distributed architecture which provides a versatile platform for managing complex communications in a variety of public network applications. The MDX•I is a tough and rugged public exchange ideally suited for harsh environments.

The MDX•I control package has dynamic system software and administrative capabilities. This allows it to be configured for a variety of applications including wireless and wireline, network integration, and emergency rapid response capabilities.

The MDX•I is available for Competitive Local Exchange Carriers (CLECs) and Multi-Tenant Systems and can be custom engineered for these markets. Your package can include all necessary components: switching platform, voice mail, battery back-up, and an advanced set of calling features in one convenient package.

Select MDX•I Features
  • Communications Assistance Law Enforcement Act (CALEA) support provides sophisticated call monitoring and electronic surveillance capabilities engineered to meet ANSI-J-STD-025-A.
  • Expanded Digital Announcer is a powerful digital announcer that provides both CLASSSM and intercept announcements.
  • SS7/C7 Connectivity engineered to industry standards and protocols.
  • Emergency Response Systems are packaged in a portable, shock-absorbent container (rack-pack) that can be transported to the emergency site and made operational within hours.
  • Computer Telephony Integration (CTI) Link allows a host computer to assert call control commands in response to MDX•I port/state messages. This link allows the MDX•I owner to develop custom applications, including line and trunk protocols.
  • ClusterNet™ Technology allows true unification of multiple MDX•I sites, or a single MDX•I site to have multiple, strategic equipment locales. ClusterNet™ allows users to enjoy the unparalleled reliability of a fully distributed system, yet also enjoy the convenience of centralized administration.
  • End Office with full-featured metropolitan capabilities, including CLASSSM features, subscriber custom calling features, LAMA/CAMA reporting, and a call translator with completely flexible dialing plans.
  • Public Exchange Adjunct Systems allow the MDX•I to work as a tandem switch for public service providers to offer ISDN services and other revenue-generating features with minimal impact to existing hardware.
  • ISDN Primary Rate Interface supports protocols at both the network and user ends.
  • ISDN Basic Rate Interface (2B+D) supports network end interface protocols for 2-wire U interfaces and 4-wire S interfaces.
  • T1/E1 Direct Digital Interface
  • MF Interregister Signaling for feature Group C and Equal Access/Feature Group D with full trunk ANI capability.
  • Standard Analog Trunks (E&M, Two-Way Loop-DID/DOD), and Lines (Standard 1900 or optional 1200 Ohms loop length).
  • Switched 56 Digital Line Circuits for interfacing to Switched 56 DSU/CSU customer premise equipment.
  • R2 Interregister Signaling provides flexible table-driven architecture for compelled and semi-compelled R2 signaling, adapts to unique country variations.
  • Signaling System No. 5 (SS5) over analog and digital trunk circuits.
  • Signaling System No. 7 SS7 (C7) tandem trunking and fully redundant signaling links.
  • Support for External Equipment including paging systems, voice mail equipment, number identification system, LAMA storage, and recording devices.
