Agate Mutual Telephone Installs REDCOM HDX Carrier Class 4/5 Softswitch

Colorado Service Provider Future Proofs Network with Next-Generation Switching System

Victor, New York (June 16, 2009) – REDCOM Laboratories Inc., a company that designs and manufactures the world’s most reliable digital and IP-enabled telecommunications systems, announced today that Agate Mutual Telephone Cooperative Association, in Agate, Colorado, has installed a REDCOM High Density Exchange (HDX) softswitch in its central office, replacing an existing REDCOM Modular Digital Exchange with ISDN (MDX•I) switch. The HDX now serves as a powerful, next-generation Carrier Class 4/5 softswitch enabling the rural Colorado service provider in the future to offer its customers Next Generation Network services.

REDCOM’s HDX softswitch allows service providers to deploy flexible networks that can adapt to ever-changing consumer demands, regulatory conditions and the competitive marketplace for value-added telecommunications services. With HDX in the central office, service providers are able to rapidly introduce new services to its customers with less hardware build-out and operational costs, while growing their revenue and leveraging their existing infrastructure.

As their business grows, Agate Mutual Telephone is now well-positioned to rapidly create and deliver new revenue-generating services. The HDX has extensive SIP trunking capabilities, which allow them to retrofit their network faster and more cost-effectively than with traditional phone lines. SIP trunks deliver high quality and reliable service with substantial cost savings that directly impact the bottom line. Also, migrating to VoIP is easy with the HDX, which works seamlessly with current infrastructure to convert existing customers to IP customers.

“We selected the REDCOM HDX softswitch because it allows us to future proof our network by interoperating today and tomorrow with a wide range of protocols and interfaces,” said Gail Pitzer, General Manager, Agate Mutual Telephone. “HDX is a cost-effective overlay on our existing network and is a solid migration path to Next Generation services. This is an investment in the future and the quality of our advanced communications services for our customers.”

In addition to future-proofing their network, Agate Mutual Telephone purchased the HDX softswitch in order to fully comply with its obligations regarding the Communications Assistance to Law Enforcement Act (CALEA) and Local Number Portability (LNP). CALEA requires service providers in the United States to modify their equipment, facilities, and services to allow for authorized electronic surveillance. LNP ensures that service subscribers have the ability to switch local or wireless carriers and still retain the same phone number.

Since 1921, AMTCA has been serving the Agate community.  From the days of the old plug board to the new REDCOM HDX, Agate’s mission is to provide its customers with the best affordable quality service.  The big plus with the REDCOM switches we have purchased is they practically run by themselves.

Based on the plains of rural eastern Colorado, AMTCA serves a 243 square-mile territory with a customer base of less than one person per square mile.  Yet, we provide dial tone, custom calling features, DSL, and satellite Internet.  Now with the new HDX, more offerings will be available for the future and REDCOM will help us pave the way.
