We offer pay-as-you-use-them technical services and repairs. And, there are no mandatory upgrades. Customers are free to operate their REDCOM systems as they purchased them. Hundreds of REDCOM switches have operated for years with no upgrades — by customer choice. Total Cost of Ownership is discussed in more detail below:

We understand rural telcos

Some of our first customers were rural service providers. We got our start by listening intently to the needs of our customers and working tirelessly to build sensible, reliable, and affordable solutions that truly stand the test of time. We understand that the evolution to IP telephony networks presents many challenges for rural service providers. That’s why REDCOM offers a complete range of hybrid and pure-IP softswitch solutions designed to help carriers reduce their reliance on obsolete systems, contain costs, capture new customers, and generate more revenue.

Read the Case Study

Farmers Mutual Telephone Co. provides phone and Internet services to rural communities in southwest Iowa. During their IP migration, Farmers Mutual needed a softswitch that could serve as a SIP-based gateway between their main IP platform and local TDM legacy networks. They also needed a softswitch that would allow them to achieve geographic redundancy in remote Iowa communities.

Farmers Mutual purchased a REDCOM SLICE 2100 and a REDCOM HDX. The SLICE 2100’s SIP-based architecture provided interoperability and superior IP-to-TDM call routing. Farmers Mutual achieved geographic redundancy by placing the SLICE 2100 and the HDX in two separate offices in different locations. The SLICE 2100 offers Farmers Mutual opportunities for expansion into new rural markets, with a lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and lower maintenance costs. Also, Farmers Mutual has found REDCOM to be a superior partner for success, providing support and cooperation to adapt the SLICE 2100’s capabilities to the needs of their network.

Understanding the Real Cost of Ownership

REDCOM systems have the lowest Total Cost of Ownership!

The most obvious aspect of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) is the initial purchase price. But the purchase price often has no bearing on long-term costs of operation. It is highly important to understand all the costs of ownership to make the best possible purchase decision.

Cash in walletSignificant post-purchase costs include:

    • Installation
    • Operation, Administration and Maintenance (OA&M)
    • Mandatory hardware upgrades
    • Software upgrades
    • Service contracts
    • The need for vendor technical services
    • Expansion and addition expenses
    • Replacement cost (due to end of product life or discontinued product support)

Considering the post-purchase cost of each of these factors and the high cost of post-sale service, the total cost of ownership is often raised to unacceptable levels.

There are no mandatory service agreements with REDCOM hardware

REDCOM believes that our customers have the right to estimate the total cost of ownership during the purchase process, not after the sale when it is too late. We front-load most of the cost into the initial price of our hardware platforms. While this may result in a higher initial price than some competitive solutions, the savvy customer recognizes that they do not have to sacrifice future revenues to pay for a solution that they need today.

REDCOM hardware platforms protect your future revenue and help reduce OpEx by offering:

    • NO mandatory upgrades
    • NO mandatory maintenance requirements
    • NO mandatory annual maintenance contracts
    • Technical support that you pay for only when you need it
