Next Generation Networks have transformed the access to many applications including Internet Protocol (IP), Voice over IP (VoIP), facsimile (fax) transmission, and security systems among others. Since IP networks, and specifically voice over IP, require transportation of modem tones, security over an IP network needed to be addressed. The ITU-T V.150.1 protocol better known as Modem over IP (MoIP) provides the means to support IP to TDM interoperability with encrypted secure voice devices, providing network infrastructures seamless interoperability.
Modem traffic over both circuit-switched networks and packet-based networks is a requirement for today’s real-world hybrid networks. Modem over Internet Protocol (MoIP) technology ensures that as networks migrate from TDM to an IP infrastructure they are still able to handle calls generated by dial-up modems or initiated for an encrypted IP phone.
REDCOM was a pioneer in the development of the Modem Relay protocol. Because VoIP encoding methods are optimized specifically for voice, they do not transport modem tone. In order to support Secure VoIP ↔ Secure TDM user calls, the modem in the analog voice encryption device must be satisfied. The challenge was creating a standard for IP networks that supported dial-up modem calls. This has been accomplished with the ITU’s publication of the V.150.1 standard, which defines how to relay data into and out of an IP network via a modem. One of the benefits of the V.150.1 modem relay application is that it requires significantly lower bandwidth, when interconnecting via IP transmission to secure devices located in TDM networks.
All REDCOM Systems equipped with TRANSip support secure VoIP communications and also enable IP and TDM users to communicate securely via secure devices and V.150.1.
Because all TRANSip enabled REDCOM Systems support ITU’s V.150.1 (Modem over Internet Protocol), they provide seamless IP to TDM interoperability of encrypted secure voice devices which is a valuable tool for converged networks supporting secure voice requirements. TRANSip is REDCOM's IP telephony technology suite that incorporates the benefits of TDM and IP technologies, providing a SIP Call Controller, Media Gateway, Media Gateway Controller, and a full range of related IP telephony capabilities and features, also supporting traditional TDM transport and signaling interfaces and features.
This capability allows REDCOM Systems connectivity to multi-technology networks and provides a secure link for private, government, defense and public networks.
